OUTREACH PROGRAM ANNOUNCEMENT

Kulintang & Lenten Outreach

The Center will be holding PHILIPPINE MUSIC SESSIONS
every Saturdays starting February 7th until April 3rd , 2004.
Instructor for these music sessions will be Felicidad A. Prudente
who is currently Visiting Professor at the Center and a UM alumna.
Interested participants are encouraged to enlist early.

Time Schedule:
2:-00 – 3:30pm KULINTANG ENSEMBLE
- learning how to play the different instruments of the
gong-drum ensemble of Mindanao. Culminating activity
of the kulintang sessions will be a performance at the School of
Music Recital Hall on April 11th, Easter Sunday at 4pm. Participants in this recital will also include UM students enrolled in Philippine Music and Kulintang performance classes.

3:30-4:30pm LENTEN CHANTING: Singing about the life and passion
of Christ

- learning to read (basa) / chant the Tagalog pasyon in
preparation for Holy Week. Proposed plan is to hold a Holy
Thursday ANN ARBOR “PABASA” (April 8th , 8am-around 10 pm)
if we can gather enough people to take turns in order to finish
reading the entire pasyon book of about 210 pages. Small groups
of 2 or more people can be given assigned time schedule so that
others can take over and continue the chanting. At the moment,
there is still no venue.


NOTE: Please put in your calendar that we have NO session on March 20th.

The center is committed to promoting a broader and deeper understanding of Southeast Asia and its peoples, cultures, and historiesby providing resources for faculty, students and the community to learn and disseminate knowledge about the region.
